If you just read the site
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don't run ads. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the service. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser's request for them reaches Google.
We count page views and a few actions, such as following a link to a source or adding the calendar, to see what's useful. Each count records the page, the site that sent you, your country and your type of device. It uses no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and includes no IP address or ID, so we can't follow one person through the site. We keep these counts for three months. Cloudflare Web Analytics, part of our hosting, also measures visits and page speed without cookies.
If you add our calendar to a calendar app, we count its visits the same way. To count how many calendars use it, the links on our calendar page carry a random code that isn't connected to you. If you add the calendar without one, we keep a one-way code made from the app's IP address and name instead. That code changes every week and can't be turned back into the address.
Pages with the signup form also run a Cloudflare Turnstile check, which tells people from bots. It starts when the page opens, whether or not you subscribe, and sends Cloudflare details such as your IP address and browser. Cloudflare's Turnstile addendum explains what it collects and why.
If you subscribe
We collect:
- your email address
- the situations you tick, such as "working toward PR"
- how you pay health insurance, pension and resident tax, if you answer
- your city or ward, if you give it
- whether you asked to hear about the app
- which page you signed up from
We use these to send you the briefing and the alerts for your situations, and, added up across all readers, to decide what to cover and what to build. We don't ask for your name or nationality.
The list is held by Kit (Kit, Inc.), which stores it and sends the email. Kit records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked; we only look at those numbers in total. When you submit the form, we send Cloudflare your IP address and the result of the Turnstile check to confirm it passed.
Kit and Cloudflare store data outside Japan, mainly in the United States. By subscribing, you agree to that transfer. Kit's own policy is at kit.com/privacy.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything other than what's described here.
Your choices
- Every email has an unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately.
- To see what we hold about you, change it, or have it deleted, email hello@juncho.app from the subscribed address.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date. If a change affects how we use what you've already given us, we'll email subscribers first.
