Renewal and change-of-status fees rise

From 1 October 2026, renewing or changing your status of residence online costs ¥27,000 for a 1-year permit and ¥65,000 for 5 years, plus a small payment fee. Applying at the counter costs more.

Since 1 October 2026, the fee for extending your stay or changing your status depends on how long a permit you’re granted. It also depends on how you apply:

Over 3 months, up to 6¥18,000¥15,000¥330¥15,330

5 years or more¥75,000¥65,000¥550¥65,550

At the counter you pay in revenue stamps (収入印紙), which can only be bought with cash. Fee reductions are only available at the counter, and bring either fee down to ¥10,000 for people who qualify.

Online, you pay after ISA emails you that the review is finished, either at a konbini or with Pay-easy at an ATM or through online banking. Credit cards and QR payments aren’t accepted, and no paper notice is sent.

Watch for fake payment emails

ISA says fee emails only come from @service-dgft.com and @veritrans.jp. If any other address asks you to pay, it’s a scam.
